Chicaagooo

Chicago, my new found home, has won me over with it’s deep dish & gorgeous lake views. But the skyscrapers and neighborhood houses are what stole my heart. And now all I want to do is paint everything I see! Obsessed is an understatement.

Architecture has always been an interest of mine and boy Oh boy does Chicago have some fine architecture. It’s history of design is rich, including the famous Robie House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, one of my all time favorites. To the Aqua Tower by Jeanne Gang, the newest member of architect legends to make their mark on this city. Everywhere you look is masterful details and beautiful shapes. How could you not fall in love?!

Needless to say, it will be the subject of my next series and I am beyond excited to share the series shortly!

Lights, Camera, Animate!

In my last post, I mentioned experimenting and trying new techniques… Well this time I dove head first into something completely new! Animation!

That’s right, I opened up After Effects, started a new composition, and immediately got overwhelmed lol I didn’t know the first thing about how to animate but I was determined to reach a goal I had set for myself; animating my Mariamade logo. So, a few Skillshare classes and frantic phone calls with my super talented motion animating friends later, I took another stab at it.

This time, slowly, things started to come together! Some keyframes here, some easy easing there, throw in a masking layer and BAM! My logo had come to life :)

So next time you need a logo animated and about 2 weeks of time to work with, I’m your gal!

Experimenting

With this new year, has come a new sense of drive and passion for my work. Recently, I was feeling stagnant in my process and pieces I was producing. I decided it was time to switch things up!

If you have ever taken an art class or gotten into crafting, you know the left over supplies can add up. I had a TON of art materials leftover from college, things I hadn't touched since my media and advanced media courses. Every color of color pencil, pastels, inks, and charcoal galore just sitting in storage boxes tucked away in a closet. Why not dust them off and try experimenting?!

I spent a good two months re-learning how to paint with gauche and made mixed-media pieces with color pencil shading and ink pen line work. It felt so good to get back to the basics and create artwork for fun. While I didn’t end up using every technique I played with over this time, I got a ton of inspiration that I think will show in my upcoming pieces.

If you are ever feeling a creative block, don’t be afraid to get out the crayons and get crazy!

Custom Pieces

Do you have a favorite place, food, or drink that you would love to hang in your home? Have a gift in mind for that special someone? Reach out for a custom piece!

I have worked on everything from a best friend’s favorite donut shop to wedding venues to dog portraits! If you can dream it, I can paint it.

I would love to hear from you!

I'm Back

These past two years has been…. Let’s say it together now.. unprecedented.

I found the current events taking a toll on my creativity and energy to produce new work.

Although we are not out of the woods just yet I do feel that drive coming back and I have a lot of new work coming that I am very excited to share with you all!

Thank you to everyone who has supported me through this journey and looking forward to making new memories, new customers, and new work for 2022!
